The Evans Swim School programme is about developing confident and competent swimmers, the National governing bodies recommend children staying in swimming lessons at least until all four competencies are achieved.

Minimum water competency standards give parents and guardians a clear set of skills that children should achieve before a child stops swimming lessons.

The four competencies are:

· Perform a star float for at least 60 seconds – taught in water safe 2 award at swim skill 1 ribbon level

Floating is an integral part of learning how to swim and survive.

· Tread water for at least 30 seconds- taught in water safe 2 award at swim skill 1 ribbon level

“Treading water is an essential skill for children to learn as it will aid self-rescue.

· Experience of swimming in clothing - taught in water safe 2 and 3 award, and again in swim skill 2 and 3 ribbons. More challenging clothed tests are also found in the advanced squad tests of our swim team programme.

“This is important to ensure all children experience that feeling of being weighed down in the water, of how the wet clothes make them heavy.

· Swim at least 100 metres with ease and without stopping- taught in swim skill 3 ribbon.

“When assessing the swimmers we like to be able to see that they are strong and confident.

As lifelong advocates of swimming, we would encourage you to continue with your swimming into adulthood. We regulary create opportunities for our older swimmers to train as Swim Helpers, Swim Teachers or Lifeguards.

Our curiculm is deigned to give all of our swimmers a love for the water, encourage a healthy lifestyle and teach valuable life skills.
